Today, Immersive Rehab turns 3! When I got accepted as the founder of Immersive Rehab on the Bethnal Green Ventures accelerator programme here in London in September 2016, I decided to jump into the entrepreneurial journey fully focused on creating something from scratch again. I had done it before as an academic researcher but this time around it would be different – there would be no organisational safety net to catch me when I fall. As a mechanical engineer and biomedical engineering scientist, making and creating things to benefit others in particular within healthcare is what I love to do so there was only one way and that was forward! As a first time founder with a clear mission in mind to transform neurorehabilitation in order to improve patient outcomes and access to rehab, the journey I embarked upon has been one of many highs and lows, but since this day 3 years ago I have always woken up in the morning with the thought: “Alright, what is on the agenda today?”. Okay, also sometimes “I could use some more sleep” :)).
These past 3 years, I have worked with some incredibly talented and passionate people who have helped shape Immersive Rehab into what we are today. Many many people have supported myself and Immersive Rehab, and we could not have gotten this far without their support, so thank you to Bethnal Green Ventures, Digital Catapult & Seedcamp, Allia Serious Impact, Microsoft for Startups & Microsoft and Social Tech Trust, UK Active, Nesta, EIT Health, MedCity, ustwo & ustwo Adventure, Health Foundry, my legal support team and everyone else – in the fear of forgetting someone I won’t name names but you know who you are :). I am very very grateful!
What will the future hold for Immersive Rehab? We will keep pushing the Digital Health field forward in particular in the area of neurorehabilitation and continue to clinically validate the use of cutting-edge and immersive technologies in healthcare. Clinical validation will drive adoption of new technologies in healthcare thereby always focusing on improving patient outcomes as that should always be the number one priority. All the healthcare professionals, clinicians and patients with whom we have engaged with over the past years have been instrumental in developing and refining our strategy to transform neurorehabilitation and they will remain to play a central role going forward. Many thanks for your trust and engagement!
Keep an eye out for updates going forward and thanks again for your continued support! Wishing you all a fabulous day and weekend! Isabel
