Patient trials with British athlete David Smith and the neuro-rehabilitation team at Neurokinex

Last Friday, Neurokinex was trialling our VR Physical/Neuro-Rehab Platform in their neuro-rehabilitation sessions with spinal cord injury patients. Amongst them was British paralympic athlete David Andrew Smith who was using our VR rehab platform as part of his physical & neuro-rehabilitation programme at Neurokinex following his own spinal cord injury.

Here is some footage from David’s rehab session:

  • British athlete David Smith using Immersive Rehab’s VR rehab platform with neurostimulation at Neurokinex – Fun Fair Towers VR exercise game
  • British athlete David Smith using Immersive Rehab’s VR rehab platform with neurostimulation at Neurokinex – Time for Jazz VR exercise game

It was a very insightful day having a professional athlete use our VR Physical/Neuro-Rehab platform, especially in terms of the impact our VR Rehab platform has on the range of movement, the number of repetitions possible, the engagement and challenges.

Thanks again to David, the therapists and other patients at Neurokinex for using our VR Rehab Platform in their neuro-rehabilitation sessions and for their valuable feedback.

What 2017 will bring for Immersive Rehab !

Welcome to 2017! Wishing you all a happy, healthy and joyful year ahead!

The new year started off great for Immersive Rehab with exciting prospects on the Research & Development front for the validation of our VR Physical/Neuro-rehabilitation Platform in a clinical setting, with new collaborations in place with various hospitals/rehab centres and academics at Imperial College London and Strathclyde University in Glasgow.

More patient trials have been planned within stroke, spinal cord injury and musculoskeletal rehabilitation units. For the next trial end of next week, I will be heading over to Neurokinex in Gatwick again to work with the therapist team and with Paralympic athlete David Smith. David is currently working with the Neurokinex team on his post-surgery rehabilitation. It is incredibly valuable and insightful to work with and learn from the amazing therapists at Neurokinex and their patients on advancing spinal cord injury rehabilitation practices.

Immersive Rehab will also be exhibiting and speaking at several events in 2017. Please come say hi if you are planning to pass by any of the events. We will be:

As a STEM advocate, I am personally very passionate about promoting science and technology with the younger generation. As such, I have been invited to give a workshop about using Virtual Reality in Healthcare in a primary school in London during the STEM Week in February 2017. Public engagement and outreach is key in all the work we do in technology and science, so I cannot be more excited to be part of the kids’ science & technology week and hope to teach them more about STEM.

More updates to follow in the coming weeks.

Have a great start of the year and may it be a successful one on all levels.

All the best,
